FEA Global Aerosol Awards 2020

2020 FEA Global Aerosol Awards Winners and Jury’s statements

Category: Innovative Product

Winner: L’Oréal – Ushuaia

L’Oréal – in collaboration with Alpla/Austria (bottle), Coster/Italy (valve & actuator) and CCL Europe (sleeve) – launched in July 2019, a range of compressed PET aerosol with Ushuaïa. Ushuaïa offers a new consumer experience for a deodorant with the association between :

  • Compressed format : to be nomadic
  • Transparency :
  • Consumer can see the formula, a way to reinforce trust between the brand and the consumer
  • Consumer can check the level of bulk
  • More attractive : sleeve allows more sophisticated decoration (for example : flower illustrating product fragrance, to play with the transparency of the PET bottle)

This range is composed of 4 fragrances (Vanilla, Orange flower, Grenada, Orchid) for an alcoholic deodorant.

The Jury says:
L’Oréal clearly demonstrates a full innovative concept combining for the first time the ‘compressed’ format and a transparent PET aerosol container , ensuring good differentiation on shelves and ergonomics during use.

Category: Packaging Element Design

Winner: Lindal – BAB

LINDAL’s BAB uses a centred Bi-Power Valve instead of two separate stems. This provides a key differentiator, as cans do not need to be orientated during filling, eliminating the need for additional lines. Consumers also benefit because the centred stem allows a more equal distribution of the two formulas as during use, pressure is applied more evenly, resulting in improved user results and confidence. The solution accommodates either sprays or creams that are dispensed in two streams and mixed together after dispensing, ideal of hair highlighting and dyeing.

The Jury says:
The Lindal Bag-and-Bag (BAB) technology (BAB) is very complex to make it work properly. Two incompatible formulations can be fastly filled through a centred Bi-Power Valve instead of two separate stems. The flow limitation is managed in the actuator, and not in the valve. It can work with any container material, but formulations could look very stylish and futuristic in transparent containers.

  • Consumer applies the mousse on the hands and distributed evenly the product until it dries (about 20 seconds)
  • The mousse instantly kills all germ / bacteria
